AVOCA — The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport will receive a federal $500,000 grant, funding that will be used to restore and support non-stop passenger air service to Florida. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the grants under the Small Community Air Service Development Program, designed to benefit communities in 16 states to assist with air service improvements. The Wilkes-Barre airport is the only grant recipient in Pennsylvania. The airport proposes to use its funding to support a new agreement with Avelo Airlines to provide flights to and from Fort Myers, Orlando, Sarasota and/or Tampa.
